We’ve been living the 4-day work week dream since before it was cool.

Back in 2017, we decided to take Friday’s off all year round. Eight years later, we can confidently say it works… really well. And as a nonprofit focused on impact, we think more organizations could benefit from exploring this.

So, what’s the big deal with a four-day work week?

Life Balance

Imagine three-day weekends every week. Giving our team Fridays off means people show up Monday recharged and ready to roll. That’s good for your mental health and our team’s creativity. Imagine Canada piloted a four-day work week in 2023 and “noted a 66% increase in mental, physical, and emotional health of their staff.

Greater Focus

With four days to get it done, we’ve learned to streamline our work. Our meetings are sharper, goals are clearer, and our work is more intentional. There’s a respect for each other’s time that naturally emerges when your week is shorter. And guess what? Productivity has improved.

If you're curious about trying a four-day work week, here’s a few things we've learned:

  • Treat it as a systems change, not just a schedule shift.

  • Set clear expectations about availability, responsiveness, and accountabilities.

  • Pilot first, then adapt. What works for us might look different for you.

We believe a shorter work week is about doing what matters better, not doing less.  We know this isn’t for every organization. But, if you’re looking to enhance staff well-being and effectiveness, or navigating high staff turnover - this could be a game-changer.

We believed in the 4-day week before it was popular and we’re not turning back.
